Re: MU 6900s, Wondering if I Shoud Use These

MU is a small contract tube manufacturer in Oceanside, CA (I think they are still in business). They make small lots of tubes on contract(usually governement work). They still make small batches of some of the Bendix Red Bank tubes such as the 6900.

So if the tubes are MU branded they have a good chance of being the real thing and likely of more recent manufacture.

The 6900 will work in almost any 5687 application (at least electrically) but not the other way around.

The 6900 is a really beefy tube that can run at double the plate voltage of the 5687 and has twice the transconductance hence lower plate resistance.

Your mileage may vary in terms of sound quality. In the Mastersound 845 amp, the 6900 sounds better than a 5687.
