The problem may be your amp isnt optimized for the 6900. This tube is much more rugged than the 5687 or 7119 and can take 600 volts on the plate. I find most tubes I use sound best when they are run closer to their maximums for the best linearity. the 6900 used sub-optimally does sound thin .... IMO.
