I'm thrilled you are enjoying it. With good tubes, that amp has zero harshness at all... Very smooth and liquid. The transparency is akin to a good SS design, but without the glare and odd sound of SS.I'm really surprised you're having microphony issues with the LPS.. Those things were absolutely dead quiet in my rig. I had the Rogue in a 200lb solid cherry armoire, though, perhaps that helped? Or maybe you play music way louder than I do :)
I wasn't a fan of the GT 12AX7M in my old ARC SP16, and I'm ashamed to say I never tried them again in the Rogue! I also never tried the TungSol 12AX7 (new)... I did try Mullard shortplates (IMO a little better than the CV4004's) and thought they were pretty good. TungSol 12AX7 (NOS) were also quite good. It's all about flavors at that point... So keep rollin' until you find your flavor!
Have fun, man, that is one seriously versatile amp. I ran EL34 (35mA), 6550 (40mA and 55mA), KT88 (40mA), and KT90 (55mA) and had a ball switching output tubes around. As I mentioned, I liked KT90 in Triode best, followed by TS6550 reissue in Triode (seriously great tubes if you ask me!), then EH KT88 in UL mode. EL34's were nice in the midrange but I didn't really find a quad that I liked much. I would have explored that avenue some more, including KT66, if I hadn't been bitten by the SET bug...
Enjoy!!
