...I know, because it was my amp before you bought it ;)Seriously, as I mentioned in an email to you, I liked Telefunkens as the best NOS in that amp. Tung-Sol (NOS, not new-production) was also pretty good. But to be honest, the new production 12AX7LPS was up there with the best and rarest NOS I tried, *in that amp*. I have never met an amp that liked new-production 12AX7 tubes as much as the Tempest II. Maybe it's the OP of the 12AX7's, I dunno.
If you just want other flavors, sure, go for it. What you will like will highly depend upon your downstream tubes, and your upstream components. Call up Jim, buy a smattering (I'd recommend Ei if he has any good ones, although I may have cleaned him out), and have some fun.
While you're at it, grab some 6SN7EH's from him. They are killer tubes, and I liked them alot in the Tempest II.
Also, you need to try to get your hands on some KT90's. By far my favorite output tubes in that amp. I ran them at 55mA (amp puts about 500v to the plates so you will need good KT90).
Have fun, man, I hope you like the Rogue. It's smooth, has a huge soundstage, and you can listen to it all day.
