I think some of the tunes are more than marginal, and I wouldn't refer to the instrumentalists as 3rd rate jazzers, but Morrison was mostly pretty worthless in my book. But then they never saw fit to boot him.I saw somewhere, something that the guy from Franz Ferdinand said, something about how Morrison thought of himself as a 'poet.' Like it would've somehow been a bad thing to have thought of himself as a 'lyricist?' I guess he was too 'arty' or something for that.
I maintain that it would've been interesting if those musicians had had someone who was interested in music as much as he was in theater, or being a 'poet,' or being 'arty' or whatever the hell he was interested in. I will say I don't like it when musicians are held back by people with non-musical ambitions.
