Watco Danish Oil versus Linseed, etc.?

Hello,

This is a question for the finishing experts. I have a Garrard 401 in a CLD plinth covered with raw maple veneer. I also have a couple old McIntosh components, one of which is an MX110 with a solid walnut Pan-Loc case. One of my friends is a luthier, who makes fancy acoustic guitars for some big guitarists. Anyway, my friend recommends that I coat these components with something called Watco Danish Oil. That is evidently a mixture of oil and some sort of varnish. It thus gives wood a nice, but evidently permanent finish. Does anyone have advice about whether I should use this or just something like linseed oil? I know almost nothing about wood finishing. I am likely to use plain oil to preserve the historically significant McIntosh case.

Thanks,
David
