Hi, Inmate51:Thanks!
I have no experience with the Stellavox mic preamps, nor much with those inside the old ReVox A-700.
I always used an outboard mic preamp of one sort or another ahead of the machines I once used to do live work. In the days of using a ReVox A-77, I had onhand a restored and updated Ampex MX-10 all-vacuum tube mixer which I had modified with Jensen 115 mic transformers. Old as it was, it offered oodles of better sound than the crummy mic preamps inside the ReVox. I would wonder about the quality of what ReVox/Studer put in their stock A-700, too.
Anyway, since you have Schoeps and Sennheisers, you have great microphones, no doubt!
I personally like my MBHO 603 cardioids, and especially my Milab VIP-50's, which I continue to use a great deal when I am out there.
I lust after a matched pair of old KM-84's simply based on my personal experience using them to record a clarinetest a few years ago.
Happy recording!
