Hi, Pelican!Less expensive than genuine KM-84's are the MBHO 603 cardioids, which I own. They are very similar sounding to the Schoeps and are quite nice on stringed instruments.
They are designed for standard Phantom powering and can be expanded with a wide range of capsules.
One last thing I recommend that you check out:
Try researching the Peluso line of recording microphones. They are supposedly quite nice and come in a range of options, including their CEMC6 two-microphone kit, which, I believe, comes equipped with as many as 3 capsules per mic! Again, close in sound to the Schoeps at a fraction of the cost and designed by a guy who services the Schoeps, so he knows the characteristics and has tried to approach their sonics at a very favorable price. The low end is supposedly something else! (Meaning GREAT!)

I am not affiliated with Peluso Labs, just happen to have been researching them recently!
Cheers and happy recording!
