Home Tape Trail

Reel to reel, cassette and other analogue tape formats.

Re: Here's an idea

Find some old cassette tape you don't care for, or pick one up for $0.25 at a junk shoppe, and rip all the tape right out. Either take it apart for this or just start pulling until you reach the end.

I'm aiming at being left with a shell inside of which the little hubs are NOT connected.

Then slip that into your car deck and see if it makes the same 'clicking noise'. If it's so, then it's probably the auto-reverse mechanism not being happy about the tape not rolling.

To which a solution could be the one on my post above - but by narrowing things down this way instead, at least if it doesn't work you'll have lost $0.25 (or nothing), instead of $19.95 or however much the adapter costs.

Just an idea - hope it helps. Good luck
