I attended a large car show some years ago. I saw all kinds of different cars & trucks - restored antiques, hot rods, lead sleds, low riders, 4x4's, factory concept cars, etc.One guy shows up on the street with and old Cadillac circa 1903 or so. My buddy and I struck up a conversation, the owner was just beaming as he told us how he found the car, what he had done to get it running, how the big brass single cylinder engine works. Pretty soon he had my buddy cranking away on the hand-crank to this museumn piece. Unbelievable.
We met on old(80's?) woman down the way showing a tiny Crosley station wagon from the 40's. She was so excited to tell us about where she got the car, how her son helps her work on it. She smiled so much as she told us about the one she and her late husband owned back in the day, the trips they took.
We met up with an old friend of mine who was a Studebaker fan(fanatic). Heard some great stories from one of his fellow club members about the nearly mythical car "driven by a little old lady to church on Sundays" that he had managed to find and restore. Heard his misadventures pulling it out of the garage and driving home several states away. We all trooped over the the Avanti display to see what new things they were doing with that old nameplate.
We thoroughly enjoyed our day.
Late that night in the campground two drunken a**holes started a loud argument. Shouted Chevy! Ford! Chevy! Ford!. When each failed to change the other's point of view by shouting, the resorted to a fistfight until the state troopers were called in. I often wonder, when these narrow minded *gentlemen* woke up in the drunk tank the next morning hung over with bloody faces and broken noses, just what enjoyment they really get from their hobby?
