Ahhh, Thanks Bob.That's much better. I'll tell you, it's not very often that my tone reaches the level that it did in our previous interactions.
Consider the hatchet buried.
If you look around, you'll see that when I can, I offer input to people in order to help them solve any problems they may have. I myself am a cassette user. Part of my own business is to transfer old media to newer, more stable media for my customers, and this is where my primary cassette use comes into play.
I stand by my original point, which is that cassette is a flawed medium which was never designed for high-fidelity audio reproduction in the first place. It was originally a dictation medium and it probably should have stayed that way.
To me, and this is my opinion only, cassette was a hoodwink on the public. Granted, at the time of its inception, it had its uses and its merits. Going to extreme lenths to squeak high quality out of a cassette is expensive, finicky, and ultimately a labor of love. Again, IMO, there is no technical merit to it.
Truthfully, I wouldn't mind having a Dragon kicking around here, just for the fun of it. They were high-quality machines and easy on the eye. I wouldn't go out of my way to acquire one, though.
My post wasn't intended as a kick in the teeth to people who like to use cassette. It was simply a question why someone would try to use it as an "analog antidote" If you want to do that, use half-track open-reel.
I'm really glad we were able to come to terms on this. I prefer friends over enemies, as I am sure you do as well.
Cheers,
-Alan
