I should have said "fib" rather than "lie." You say A sounds better than B, and although I don't hear a difference, I agree with you just to be nice. I think calling that a lie is too strong.I follow you up to a point on the volume level matching. If A is louder than B in an ABX DBT, listeners should be able to score positive because differences in volume are easy to detect in switching from A to B. Therefore volume level matching is necessary if the purpose of the test is to determine if there is an audible difference between A and B when the volumes are identical.
But why is volume matching important in casual comparisons of equipment at home. If recognizing a volume difference is easy, why would I confuse it with some other audible difference?
