Re: An ABX is not required.

Pat,

Thanks for the informative post. I'd like to address a couple of comments you made.

I said: "I believe if the proponents of DBTs were to accept this method of performing the tests it would alienate a lot less of the opponents of DBTs who object to the insertion of an ABX box and a second set of interconnects! In addition it would strengthen the DBT's proponents arguement that the validity of DBTs have been proven via it's many trials in the medical field. For it would make audio DBTs more like medical DBTs."

And you Pat replied: Actually, this has been tried. In the June 1998 issue of Stereo Review, as I recall, there is a report of just such a slow, manually switched DBT.

TG54: I didn't know this was ever attempted. I have to admit I'm not one bit surprised that it did not satisfy those inclined toward subjectivist views. Through reading many of the posts here on A.A. I've come to discover there are those (both Objectivits & Subjectivists) that want to:

A) Have an audio system that's a close to being able to replicate live unamplified music as they can possibly obatin. This of course is effected by many things finances, personal preferences & biases etc.

B) Be right at any cost. This group doesn't want to learn anything new. They just want/need to believe their present beliefs are the correct ones! As if there is any one correct belief in audio...

I think that if the Subjectivists main objections were the audio components being used, whether that be speakers, amp, CDP etc. Then allowing the Subjectivists to select the components to be used in the DBT would remove yet one more "problem." Of course because Subjectivists, like Objectivists fall into both A & B above. There could still be some complaints even if they were allowed to choose the audio components. So in the end those amongst us who want to learn will and those amongst us who want to be correct at all costs won't!

Apparently this is a controversy that will never be resolved...
