Re: Besides speakers like Tom's

I don't see that we can review it, Steve. Yes, back in the 1960s,
Gordon Holt did write a short report on the Altec A-7. But other
than that, we have steered clear of sound reinforcement speakers.

And I still don't get it, John.

Twice you've made mention of "sound reinforcement" yet I still have no idea exactly what this means as it relates to the SH-50's peformance in a home audio system and its disqualification for review consideration in Stereophile.

The only things that say "sound reinforcement" to me are its trapezoidal shape for easy arraying, and its industrial painted finish, neither of which have anything to do with its performance in a home audio system. In fact, I would argue that the SH-50's broadband, controlled directivity alone actually makes it more suitable for home audio than pretty much every other speaker Stereophile has reviewed.

Bottom line, beyond the trapezoidal cabinet shape and the industrial painted finish, what I see is something that was designed to be a high quality, high performance loudspeaker. Period.

So I'll say it once again. I don't get it.

Way too many domestic speakers deserving attention, IMO.

You mean like the Tetra 505L TD?
