Re: Besides speakers like Tom's

Hi Steve, John

I am afraid the looks and 28in by 28in horn mouth enclosure would pretty much rule it out for home use and the headroom is absurd for a home product (unless you never want to leave the linear and very low distortion region, even when loud).
Also, while the metal grill is critical in its market, the measurements are better with the grill removed.
A plus for the physical size though is the directivity usually produces reasonable measurements even at the listening position (in my room they are 14 feet away), unlike domes and cones in the same locations.

On the other hand, while unavoidably biased, I don’t think fidelity is an issue, we have had some acceptance in the recording area, for example the fellow who mixed / recorded the Montreux jazz festival this year has give a number of mixing seminars, using this kind of speaker for playback.

I am curious what the “hifi” community would think about the sound and stereo imaging, while those aspects are perhaps not as important where they are normally used, the design principal corrects many audible issues that stand uncorrected in nearly all conventional speakers.

I will be off line for a few days but I would like to figure out how to have some hifi people hear them.
Best,

Tom
