Re: Let's compare numbers and see why mine are different from yours

"What kind of engineer are you?"

Power distribution and construction project management. How much power can a phonograph cartridge produce? Hardly seems worth the effort, it wouldn't light a flashlight bulb. What kind of building permit does it take to get one installed and which code enforcement official inspects it to grant a cirtificate of occupancy?

Kidding aside, what phongraph record has a signal on it which would require a faster slew rate than my hypothetical case? Even that seems well beyond real world requirements. It's interesting that according to JBL, until 1958 they never even had to deal with signals over 12 khz. In the mid 1960s Audio Fidelity records claimed response to 25 khz. If you have one with say the Dukes of Dixieland, Al Hirt, or some of those sound effects discs they used to release, you'll see the specs for the "Frey Stereophonic Curtain of Sound" on the back of the jacket. Of course having any significant signal to record beyond 15 khz or so seems unlikely given the characteristics and requirements of musical signals and the limitations of human hearing. What you would call the "fastest slewing" cartridge I have is probably Empire 4000DIII which has a Shibata like stylus with response beyond 45khz for use with CD-4 records and will track at under 1 gram. Same audible results.

So what about my numbers? Where do you disagree with them to draw the conclusion that you need to specify a requirement of 5V/us? What are the details of the highest velocity slew rate recording and cartridge output electrical slew rate you measured? BTW, I have never owned an MC cartridge and have no intention of ever acquiring one. I don't see any advantages to them and a whole host of disadvantages to them. I'll stick with Shure V15 Type V MR for the time being. I guess I'm just a "mid fi" kinda guy.

BTW, in case it hadn't occurred to you, I am firmly cemented in the camp that believes that bandwidth beyond 20 khz is not necessary or even desirable...except for decoding CD 4 discs of course.
