As you might know, guitars are a little more flexible in how they are struck. You can use your fingers, fingernails (if you grow them) plastic picks, violin bows (saw this with a 'Led Zepplin concert' on 'central' this week), toothpicks (one of my favorates) and even pieces of metal, or glass. Guitars can have nylon strings, silver strings(steel?) or brass(steel) strings. This makes them also into percussive instruments on occasion.
I have had 11 guitars in the last 50 years. 3 classical (nylon string) 3 electrical, 1 - 12 string, and 3 folk guitars (6 steel string). These, except 2, were especially good guitars, but they were either stolen [2], burned up in a firestorm [1], or sold because they did not meet my interests in music at the time. I have heard even better guitars that I would have almost 'killed' (just an expression) for, if I had the chance of getting them. I think this a a right brained thing.
