Frequency response is not the only thing that determines tonality.
Do you understand that changing the harmonic structure of a signal (e.g. changing distortion spectrum) will also change perceived tonality? In other words, two systems with ruler flat frequency response can sound quite different (tonally) if their distortion spectra are different.
If you modify your statement to:
I guess that is one area we all could agree that changing tonality of the system can be achieved electronically (change of frequency response or harmonic spectrum)
then you have have improved it, IMO.
