Lets take a fairly reactive speaker cable. Add this to the loudspeaker crossover and I think we not only may change frequency response but some phase changes as well. Now this will all depend on the reactance of the speaker cable, the output impedance of the power amp and the loudspeaker crossover.
The above tells us that this will have varying effects with different loudspeakers and to some extent power amps, which is why audiophiles read a review of speaker cable X, go out and buy speaker cable X, and then proceed to discover one of three things. Either it works as they read from the reviewer, it works the opposite from what they read from the reviewer, or next to nothing happens at all.
