The Merlins are said to be very good. Don't know much about the Joule amplifiers, except to say that they too have a great reputation. Whatever the source of your dissatisfaction with the bass reproduction is, you should first determine that it is due to a deficiency of the speaker (or a suboptimal speaker/amplifier match), before rushing to judgment on them. Meantime, if you search this site you will find several lists of speakers that are suitable for use with an OTL.
