Re: Lower treble emphasis?

0

There is no lower treble emphasis. The MA-1 simply reveals the source with complete accuracy. I discussed this very observation with Mr. Bolin, during the CES show, over a year ago. It was agreed that the source components had this emphasis and the MA-1 was simply reproducing this emphasis without fault. A lesser amplifier would tend to obscure the characteristics of the source components. I'd rather have a source up to the task of supporting such a fine amplifier.

You've touched on one of my pet peeves. I simply can not tolerate systems that are bright, grainy, brittle, have glare, etc. So many popular preamps use tubes and topologies that are known to produce this characteristic. I never hear it in live music. So very many audiophiles seem to be immune to this. It's not necessarily a treble emphasis. It can be simple third order distortion. Ears are very sensitive to this kind of distortion. It seems some ears are not so sensitive. I'll bet almost 90% of the rooms at CES and The Show have systems that are just plain bright. I can't stand to listen to them. It just ain't music.

So, enough of the soap box already!
