This driver is so "drifty" that it's hard to determine if a change actually makes a difference if the difference is small. It changes with the temperature of the room and the length of time it's been playing. It does tend to "loosen up" after a half hour of playing.
I thought there was a difference, but last night it sounded a lot like its old self. Where I live the temperatures vary by as much as 20 degrees from day to day in the summer, with the coastal fog coming in or not. This greatly affects the way it sounds from day to day, from what I'm experiencing.
How did it sound yesterday, with a 10 degree drop from the day before? Well, it kinda sounded pretty much the same as before the mod to be honest if memory serves, or maybe a little better. It could be a placebo effect, or maybe from the power of suggestion. I can't A/B it, so it is what it is now. It will stay because I see to harm in leaving it in there. There were no bad effects from this mod.
Long term listening tends to override the placebo effect because placebos don't last forever. In long term, multi-day experience, the placebo wears off. I think it's wearing off on me now, and Bert may be right after all. The hole is sealed off by the tweeter when assembled, but there is a tiny chamber in there that is experiencing compression/rarefaction.
In summary, I don't know for sure that the tweak is really working. It did seem to image better than I knew it did before, but yesterday it didn't seem to be as in focus as I remembered the day before that. So what can I say?
