I am not laughing at you or anyone else, just having fun about the tweak which does not work and still all seem to hear it as a major improvement. Take it apart again and look more closely to the black plastic phase plug/wave guide. All sound is guided within that plug, no sound is coming from the back at all.... how on earth should the holes not "seen" affect the wave pattern?
If it would then you are rigth (same as blowing along the opening of a bottle making it wissle) but in this situation it is not the case.
Your "tweak" gave me an idea for a another one though, thanks for that.
