It was the world's first "tubed" SACD player priced at under $1,000 that brought me back this time.So what is scheduled next a "SET tubed" under $800 that is guaranteed to play hybrid SACDs each and every one on the first try? Even that will not be enough "spindle cracks" have to also be history. True about resolution of the Master tapes has to be disclosed on every single SACD.
Actually here is a list of what I want to come back to SACD:
1). Every single recording made is released on Single Layer SACD from every single recording company in the entire world. And none of these stupid 2 disc sets (SACD + CD) No they will have to be totally separate products Single layer SACDs for SACD players and Single layer CDs for CD players.
2) No more "spindle cracks". I have finally sold all my SACDs with "spindle cracks" but I sold them dirt-cheap. I thought these were gone but even recent releases have had spindle cracks such as Sonoma's Music for Organ, Brass & Timpani.
3) SACD players stop having repair or replacement issues and last on average 10 years (like CD or DVD players) before needing alignment or repair.
4) All SACDs must disclose the resolution of the Master tape (Analog what speed? How many tracks?; Digital PCM? What resolution? DSD?) Also if it was mixed what was it mixed to and at what resolution?
I don't believe even one of these conditions will be met so I that case I will not own SACD again as these are my minimum requirements.
I was seduced back in the by the glorious temptation of tubed SACD sound. Now that I have experienced that I can enjoy my LPs and Reel to Reels tapes without wondering how a tubed SACD player would sound.
I've been there done that. Transistor SACD and Tubed SACD.
Happy listening,
Teresa
