Re: Teresa--you're selling your Xindak! Why

The retail price of both SACD players far exceeds my Music Hall mmf-5 Turntable:

Music Hall mmf-5 Retail $629.99 - paid $594.00 including shipping.

Sony DVP-S9000ES - Original retail $1,499.95 lowered to $1,299.95 - paid $575.00 including shipping on clearance.

Xindak SCD-2 - Original retail $1,999.95 lowered to $1,699.95 purchased gray market for $975.00.

A little math will shows that at original retail the Xindak is $1,406.00 more than the Music Hall. And at Original retail the Sony 9000ES is $869.96 the Music Hall.

So as you the price range of my SACD players is WAY more than my turntable! Especially at original retail.

The only SACD player I know of that might sound better than the Xindak is possibly the Cary and another brand of Chinese tubed SACD. I can't afford $2,000.00 - $5,000.00 for an SACD player. The Xindak Gray Market at $975.00 is more than I usually spend on a component but it was tubed and at the time less than 1/2 price!

Anyway between my first DVP-S9000ES and the Xindak SCD-2 I have had such a problem with Hybrid SACDs and I don't trust them anymore. My current 9000ES is my second one and I only bought it because it was super cheap at about 65% discount over the original price. However the first 9000ES had intermediate troubles with Hybrids for over nine months until the problem was repeatable in about 1 out 3 then I was able to get it fixed. That was and is a real PITA! My current Xindak has been replaced once and repaired once and is now utterly refusing to play Hybrid SACDs. So I am giving up on SACD because I don’t trust Hybrids anyone. One can only take so much before they call it quits, and I am way past that point! And I don’t care if it’s the hardware, software or anything else. SACD is finished for me, forever!

The other thing to push me towards completely eliminating SACD was the need for even more space for LPs and forthcoming Reel to Reel tapes.

I cannot stand CDs, so the only Digital I will have is 24/96 DADs and 24/192 DADs and of course DVD-Movies. I am keeping my DADs for the convenience, as sometimes I don't feel like messing with LPs.

I really never should have come back to SACD, as I love Analog, 2 channel and tubes and it was a tubed SACD player that suckered me back.

However if it were not for my fantastic sounding tubed Xindak SCD-2 I likely would never have upgraded my turntable. So guess I should thank Hybrid SACDs for my turntable upgrade!

Happy listening,
Teresa
