As a beginner in classical music versus most here, that is what I've been doing. It is nice to have the choice of buying an SACD for the Living Stereo recordings and some other classical works that I like. Believe me I understand I can eliminate SACD and build a collection just utilizing CD and LPs for classical music and be quite happy with it, but at least the option is there to check into recordings that have been released in hi-rez for some classical works. My main interest however is jazz for which I haven't duplicated recordings I already own.
Not sure however that one needs to spend $5k to reap at least some of the benefits of SACD. I was able to impress a co-worker with some of the recordings I played from him on my $100 Sony DVP NS775 SACD/DVD player. Perhaps that impression would only be a for a minority of recordings but nonetheless given the cost of the player.
