The studios which were to be exclusively HD-DVD appear to be now saying that they will output in both formats - with maybe one exception - which means that if you get Blu-Ray you will probably be able to buy almost all movies without an HD-DVD player. It was the fact that certain studios said they would not be releasing in Blu-Ray that made it appear that we consumers would have to get a player of both formats in order to see all movies. Makes perfect sense for a studio to support both formats, so as to make as many sales as possible. With Blu-Ray's long term capacity advantage, it's looking more and more like a winner, but as the article says, not a quick one. And everybody's just guessing at this point. This new development might be the spur to HD-DVD agreeing to a merger of the formats - using the Blu-Ray disk and laser technology, and the software, including managed copy, from HD-DVD. That would be great but working out how to split the spoils won't be easy.
