The audio specs for Blu-ray includes DTS-HD, which has provisions for lossless encoding. Dolby TrueHD is an optional format for surround. All players must support a stereo output of Dolby TrueHD.So, lossless is mandatory within Blu-ray assuming the content provider makes the smart choice to encode DTS-HD with the lossless option.
And you need to understand that all Blu-ray players will support Dolby TrueHD (MLP with enhanced metadata) for Blu-ray from the start. The only difference between Blu-ray and HD-DVD from an audio perspective is that if there's Dolby TrueHD audio track it has to include another mandatory format. This could be satisfied with a Dolby Digital 2.0 track quite easily.
