The occasional necessity of a video display IS a major nuisance... I have found, however, a simple technique that works *most* of the time in getting to the 2ch section of DVD-A. You configure your player to default to 2ch audio playback, then when you load the disc, just put it in the tray and press "play" instead of "open/close". This works for most of the DVD-A discs that I have. Note, however, that some rebellious discs refuse to submit due to the mentioned variances in authoring. What player are you using?Cheers
