I understand your frustration. I started out with a cheap 5.5 inch B&W monitor that is about 7 ft. or so from the listening chair and found that insufficient. I bought a cheapo 13 inch color TV and that is better. I have a couple of other things hooked to the monitor via a video switch so I found other uses for it - e.g. when I dub a vacation tape from the mini DV camcorder to the DVD recorder I don't want to turn on the projector and waste bulb life so I use the small TV for that.
