Re: Why do you think DVD-A is superior to SACD?

I agree totally with your point that top quality mastering (and recording engineering) is a prerequsite to great audio reproduction. This is true whether you are talking about RDCD, SACD or DVD-A. And as I said in my original post, I own a lot of SACDs -- some are excellent, some no better than average. Yet in fairness I must admit that when I listen to the same title (Diana Krall: Love Scenes) on separate SACD and DVD-A discs, while both are outstanding, the DVD-A version is clearly superior (one of the best hi-rez discs I have ever heard). They both have excellent resolution, tonality, soundstaging, transparency and extention. But the DVD-A version is even more life-like, i.e. there is more of a sense of "presence" with the music due to innumerable micro-dynamic cues and a greater sense of "air". A head to head test is the only way you can resolve question, and unfortunately there are very few discs available in both formats.
