Your frustrations are understood and have plenty of sympathesizers. While we often lump SACD and DVD-A together when we declare that hi-rez audio formats are dead, DVD-A is "deader" than SACD, and more frustrating to boot.
The difficulty navigating through the menus of discs has long been a problem. There simply is no standard. I don't even have a video display hooked up to my Marantz DV-8300, so if my DVD-As doesn't play correctly, I just stick them back in the rack and pull out a CD equivalent. It's not worth screwin' with . . .
In retrospect, the failure of DVD-A is a failure of "too many cooks in the kitchen." It was the idea of a consortium, and all the inefficiencies that come with too many decision makers reared its ugly head.
In contrast, Sony--a single corporation--pushed SACD through to the marketplace and it has been by far more successful than DVD-A (just contrast the number of discs available for each format).
