not that I disagree with the gist of what you say, but your statement that "....any tube will do" suggests, even if unintentionally, that each new production tube will sound the same "as long as its not noisy and lasts a long time" I have to strongly disagree! Appropriate type (when you have a choice) as well as brand selection are both application specific and distinctively different within types. They will sound different. FWIW
