But you could substitute any component (such as tuner, tape deck, etc.) for the word "CD Player" in your question. Any device that has an amplification stage will sound better with a properly designed tube stage compared to it's transistor cousin. CD players have an amplification stage (or two) to get the analog sound from the D/A converter chip to line level. Using a tube instead of a transistor is a good thing. Putting a tube on the output of an op amp is not the same thing.I agree with what Chris says below. The only exception that I have would be the use of transformers. If a high quality audio transformer is up for the task, then that would be my choice for what is "best". Transformers are totally da' bomb!!!
