Seriously, my Jolida has far better "sound" and is a far more captivating machine than my previous Rotel. Whether that actually has anything to do with tubes I'm not sure. Perhaps it just a better CDP all around. Lord knows the construction is more robust and it's a few years newer than the Rotel was (sorry, forget the model of the Rotel, but it's a well respected one...)I've tried various tubes (Mullard, EH, etc.) in my Jolida as well, and they do have a VERY noticible impact on the sound. So, that is an important factor as well, combined with the signature of the rest of the system and the synergy of same.
Overall I'm a big fan and ardent believer in tubes and the sound, presence and musicality they help produce. Thusly I believe that tubes contribute to a better "sound" in my CDP and by extension, system. I have nothing to base this on except my ears, which have never lead me astray...
