In my opinion you don't have to have tubes in a CD player for CD's to sound good. It depends on the CD player. I have a theory why CD players sound harsh to so many people. I think it's because they're output is to high compared to most vinyl rigs. On both of my pre amps my CD player is already loud at 8 o'clock for example. My vinyl rig might have to be turned up 11 or 12 o'clock for the same volume. When I built my foreplay I found I could add more resistance to one channel so my CD player had aproximatly the same input level as my vinyl rig. It made a huge difference. Alot of the harshness is gone. It depends on the CD player but having a tube stage isn't always a good thing. Just my humble opinion. That being said, vinyl still sounds better. But CD's are worth listenng to now.
