Tubes Asylum Questions about tubes and gear that glows. FAQ |
|
Aside from normal tube to tube variations, are there tubes that are actually manufactured with pins that are a bit thicker? More to the point is there any kind of truth to what I am told by a dealer that Svetlana SED Winged C tubes from a well-known tube supply house have pins that are thinner than tubes sold by Audio-Research? Put another way: is there any possiblility that ARC actually orders thicker pins on their tubes? How many ways can I say it, I think you get my question.
Thanks.
Oh, and if you want to know why I ask, well the amp is in the shop with two matched quads of brand new 6550Cs and the first call I get is that the tubes are the "wrong tubes" for the amp and that they can only help if I pony up $800.00 plus tax for ARC tubes. Tubes sell for $55.00 a matched pair from reliable sources and $100.00 a piece from ARC. What the hell is going on here?
