No, I was speaking rhetorically, not meaning you specifically. I don't remember seeing you post anything like that, though, either.I do like DeVille...but there are plenty of common echoes & whispers that you hear on a lot of recs from scenes that were like the NYC scene was at the time. But then a lot of the recs were by acts where a member or two might've well been in one of the other acts where you hear a similar melody line here, a similar change there...I remember there's a section somewhere on a Mink DeVille rec that's almost exactly the same as a section in a song on the first David Johansen album...
...the problem with getting into these sorts of discussions...not that I mind...is that quite often people get hung up on just one thing, one style, one scene, one era...and as much as I love the stuff that came out of this town 30 years ago, in that short period of 3 years or so where there was that flurry of activity that resulted in a lot of recs & bands...Johnny Thunders just happens to be one guy whose legacy legitimately transcends the appreciation of any one scene, and doesn't go anywhere near, at least for me, the loser aspect of getting hung up on this or that scene. Now, having to see clones of the guy on but also off stages around here over the past 20+ years is annoying, but at the same time it was interesting seeing his look reconstituted through 80s hair metal.
L.A.M.F., in spite of the juvenile nature of some of the words, is one of the best rock'n'roll records I've ever heard, and I've loved this guy's playing for a very long time...and then I go see Dick Dale one night & in one hour it seemed like he did everything Johnny Thunders did in his entire career. Go figure...
