I don't think I've ever seen even one photograph of Johnny Thunders wearing women's clothing. Perhaps you could refer me to one. When he was in the NY Dolls he had hairspray & wore some makeup on stage. However, if platform boots mean cross-dresser, then you have to level the same charge at KISS. Regardless, there was nothing resembling cross-dressing or androgyny in anything that he did in the more than 15 years after the breakup of the New York Dolls.Seems to me Bingenheimer played his music on KROQ, and unless you have evidence to suggest otherwise, then to say that he 'had no role on the West Coast' and that 'his music wasn't played on the radio' is baseless.
You're a smart guy, right? You don't like to say stupid things, right? Yes, we can agree that the man is dead & that he was a horrible junkie. I wouldn't name myself after him, that's for sure. But this guy had a unique dual influence on two genres of rock music that few people can claim. If you'd like to get into the nuts and bolts, I can list examples.
I don't imagine you want to pursue that, but telling me that a guy was a 'nothing' and then only being able to follow up by offering that you were 'not into the music of the NYD,' when the majority of what he recorded came after their demise, is bizarre at best, stupid at worst. But snarky any way you look at it, since you seem to have been baited into this crap from that exhange on that other board.
Where I posted a very specific reply to something else you put up that you either didn't see or didn't deem worthy of a response.
Either way, if I dismissed a musician as a 'nothing' because I didn't like the first band he was in, while apparently not hearing anything else he did (including collaborations with Phil Lynott & Steve Marriott), or because he was a 'cross-dresser' (a charge that I don't see as having any merit whatsoever, unless you can prove otherwise), then I'd be forced to admit that I was making dumbass judgments on the basis of something other than music.
Sorta reminds me of people who dismiss Dylan because they think he can't sing. If that simliarity & closed-mindedness, based on inaccuracy, isn't present in yr judgment, then perhaps you'd care to let us know why.
