This argument of how important talent or merit is to success is shortsighted.Venture capitalists may not be musically discerning, but what sells is certainly not the only concern: what doesn't sell is a big part of the equation. Most of what's released doesn't sell, but it's a key factor in saving money through tax write-offs.
It is true that in the past decade or two, that the spirit of venture capitalism became a part of the music business to a degree never seen before. Claiming either that there are geniuses toiling in obscurity, or that most talented, productive & dedicated artists achieve success, are both statements based on subjectivity, and can be considered true or false based on one's taste (or lack of it). The "bingo" part of the equation as stated here, however, is merely trolling.
