I only got the new set because a friend of mine, a lover of all the finer things in life and in particular of the Borodins, had almost all of the original EMI issues except the ones that I had (they had gone out of print in the meantime); so I gave them away in the noble spirit of the arts, but of course had to replace every single one at the earliest opportunity: I couldn't live without them after I heard the Borodins again at the Alice Tully Hall in Manhattan. The gorgeous sound was the exact same as on those EMI/Melodiya recordings. They really capture the Borodins in the best possible way.A great recommendation, then; music-making at its very best, as far as I'm concerned, and in quintessential repertoire.
