I fashioned a cover for my volume pot from a piece of steel housing of part I hand on hand.
This seems to help a bi, the amp is quieter as the wiper approachs the half way mark, but still a bit noisey as you get close to full volume.
Now I'm torn between being satisfied with this or going further.
What this experiment did do is convince me the noise is from the rectifier wiring. Leading me to think the real solution lies in moving the rectifier circuit away from the input circuit. Then on to
scrapping the tube rectifier.
