You might want to take a look at these. I haven't tried them, but they may provide an easy way for you to determine if your problem is being caused by the rectifier tube. They are a SS replacement that plugs into your rectifier tube socket. They also incorporate linear in-rush current limiting.http://www.webervst.com/ccap.html#FAQ
