I will stay with cassette, which is what I wanted to do from the beginning.... I would way rather have analog sound than fashion anyways.I will watch eBay for some of the Walkmans you have mentioned... I am still going to let my wife buy me a new one for Christmas though. I saw the one remaining model in the Sony Store yesterday, and I was really attracted to the small size, modern looks, and inexpensive price. I also really like the fact that it only takes one AA battery. It was entertaining asking to look at it... even the salesman looked at me a little strange when I asked to see the lonely cassette walkman.
With my current system, I have figured out that the best quality comes from Sony HF ferrite tape, recorded quite hot, with no dolby. I have not tried TDK, but have tried various Fuji, Maxell, and Sony formulations. I think my recorder is just not good enough to do a good job with chrome tape, because it seems to distort on heavily modulated passages. My dad has a Nakamichi BX-100 in his basement which I will use to correct this problem if I continue to get more and more into cassettes.
As long as I am sticking with cassette - would it be worth it to order some Quantegy blank tapes?? I used Quantegy on my Ampex reel to reel, and it was great tape, but would it be better than Sony, etc for cassettes too?
Thank you again
Max
