The PR-10 should offer their version of "balanced", professional XLR connectors. So your unit actually says "unbal" on some of those XLR's ??? That **IS** kind of strange in my opinion, but I got rid of my PR-10 over twenty years ago (and celebrated BIG-TIME).

As I mentioned, pin #2 may not be "hot" in their wiring scheme. That was later standardized pretty much. Even today, on certain European consoles and products, Pin #2 is not always "hot".

You should not have much to worry about, however.

Just figure out which two pins will work for your connection to a preamp or amplifier.

I doubt if Radio Shack sells open reel tape nowadays. However, their large catalog may actually contain some. Check it out, if that is possible.
