Well, thanks very much for taking the time to reply, a wealth of useful tips there. Much appreciated. Given your advice and the dual playback heads I think it has to be the first good Otari or Technics I come across.I wonder Benshapiro, is there a suitable device for monitoring the signal coming off the tape while the head azimuth is being adjusted? Or is it something that has to be done by ear alone?

PS Good advice about duplicating and updating the CD copies - in my experiences of CDs so far the original tapes will probably outlast them!
