The Technics, a Revox B77 or A77, the Otari mentioned--all fine machines. A better Tascam/Teac would be OK too. One thing I've found in dubbing old tapes is the record machines often didn't have their head azimuth (angle) adjusted properly, so to get maximum fidelity I manually tweak the azimuth until I hear the most high frequency content. It can make a significant difference. Of course then the azimuth is out of spec, but you can always take it to a tech and get it back, or do it yourself. Clean the heads frequently 'cause old tapes may shed, and watch for gummy residue on the transport (sign of sticky tape syndrome).
