Dan:I think there are several categories/threads of conversation under this one topic. How about:
1) Circuit - Power Supply interaction. How should power and signal grounds interact? How do we take power supply currents (e.g. cap charging) into account?
2) Analog ground to chassis ground interaction. Where/how to connect the active circuitry to chassis ground. I have seen recommendations to connect input sockets to chassis ground, output sockets to chassis ground, power supply single ground point ("star") to chassis, etc...
3) Component-to-component interactions, and system connection to Earth/AC Mains ground. What's the systematic best practice?
BTW, it's interesting that there have been no other posts on this thread. I agree with you that this is a very important subject, but I guess we are alone.....
