I'm unsure of where the truth is on this issue. What I do know is when I was younger 13-20 there were certain LPs that I played literally almost everyday! Beatles Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band would be an excellent example. That would equal 2555 plays. But for arguement's sake lets say I only played it 2x a week. We'd have (52 weeks) X (7 years) = 364 weeks X (2X a week) = 728 plays! Honestly except for a few pops a ticks that some LPs developed I cannot say I ever noticed a significant sound difference between and older and a new LP.That said, I cannot help but believe that a diamond dragging along a piece of vinyl causes some wear to occur. I guess it's like the tubes vs transitor arguement. It seems from what we read that transistors "should" sound superior, but when listening tubes almost always do! It also seems that a diamond dragging along a piece of vinyl "should" cause some wear to occur but when listening it doesn't sound like it does!
