I have mic pre-amps and mics myself. This is a small club, and on nights that I want to record, we are going to try to run it without the P.A. system. (I'm good friends with the club owner, we may even try some stuff after hours)The Dat machine has a secondary purpose. I have many back coated master and production dubs that I really enjoy, but don't want to ruin. I've made copies of these, but it seems that there is a slight difference in sound quality from generation to generation. The Dat doesn't seem to have this problem. (And the two reel machines that I'm using aren't cheapo units, they're heavily modified Scullys). Also, I'm tired of baking those damn back coated tapes!
My buddy with the jazz group already has a CD burner, so I figured that he could burn the CDs for he and the guys in the band. They really are using the recordings as an evaluation of their performance. I may have him burn one for me also, so I can enjoy it in the car.
I do think that it would be great to have a nice DAT recording of some very talented jazz musicians, (that I could enjoy on the home hi-fi). So, sound quality is important. I appreciate your help and concern! Thanks!
